iPod sport kit
Update July 21st : Now with questions and answers!
How much does it cost?
The Nike +iPod sport kit costs $29.
What does that include?
The kit includes the sensor (the part that goes inside your shoe, or in my case, inside your shoe pocket) and the receiver which fits in the dock connector of your iPod nano.
Do I have to buy Nike + shoes in order to use the kit?
No. I put the sensor in a shoe pocket attached to my Brooks running shoe and it works just fine. It's probably a good idea to make sure your sensor fits in the pocket snuggly for accuracy.
How accurate is it?
I found the kit to be sufficiently accurate without custom calibration when compared to mapping my route with walkjogrun.net. Instructions are included on how to calibrate the kit yourself.
Comments
Did you get it? I went to my local store and they didn't have it, so I'm ordering it all online.
Yeah, I picked up the kit today. I put the sensor in one of those key pouches that attach to your shoelaces and it seemed to work fine on my test run. Woo hoo!
Oh so you didn't even buy the special shoes for it? Awesome!
How much did you run/where/how are the stats and everything online?
Yep, you can just buy the kit ($30).
I ran 2.9 miles according to the default calibration, which sounds about right according to my calculations.
A history of your runs is stored on your iPod, and if you choose also synched to nikeplus.com when you sync your iPod with iTunes. Nikeplus.com also keeps track of all your stats, allows you to set personal goals, and "challenge" your friends.
key pouch = shoe pocket
This seems like it might avoid the problem of the Sportsbrain pedometer where all your data was on their website and non-exportable and the device wasn't compatible with anything else.
are you using a nano?
Yep, I think it only works with the nano.
I read about that the other day - tis is a cool alternative to getting, say, an expensive heart monitor ... etc, especially if you already have an iPod
How much are they?
$29 for the kit.
Nice, that is a lot cheaper than I thought it was going to be!
This looks great. I should have mine tomorrow, which, hopefully, will help with my t-shirt problem.
I've tried this out now (with the Nike shoes, which have a cut-out in the sole where you can insert the transmitter). I really like it, and love being able to upload my data by syncing my ipod without having to enter anything in myself. But I was wondering about the accuracy. Did you calibrate it?
I didn't calibrate it, but I've measured my route using walkjogrun.net and it matches up very closely.
Yeah I'm just back, and it seems pretty accurate. I'm going to take it to Kezar to calibrate it anyway though, I think.
Did the key pouch come with the kit or did you get that separately?
Just posted about my first run with it all if anyone's interested in reading about it.
