No dog can resist the allure of a well-rotted carcass that's reached the state of unidentifiable, putrid, black goo. This goo must be applied to the upper half of the body, preferably by catching the humans off guard with some nosediving ballet resulting in a liberal application of the foulness. Savor this fleeting moment, as you'll now be heading directly to the bathtub.
Chels is not a Shiba Inu, but she's often mistaken for one. Like a Shiba Inu, she has a doublecoat and sheds her undercoat twice a year. This is often referred to as "blowing coat." I call it a fur explosion.
Last night when I got back from NYC, I noticed that Chels was starting to blow coat. Giveaways: extra large tumbleweed furballs blowing around the apartment, tufted haunches (the fur that's ready to go often clumps together in tufts), and the cloud of fur floating around her. Even though this is approximately the 17th time I've witnessed Chels blow her coat, last night I was still afraid I was going to be left with a bald dog once I started brushing her and pulling out clumps and the pile of fur around us kept growing. We never get to bald and Chels doesn't even look any different after she's blown her coat which usually takes a couple of weeks of daily brushing and a bath or two.
